Sportscene presented by Rob MacLean with Jimmy Calderwood and Jack Ross

And at Ibrox earlier: Rangers v. Celtic - Paul Mitchell

ESPN UK seem to have got their act together in recent weeks when it comes to getting co-commentators onto their coverage of the European leagues. It's good to see.

Wolves Vs Spurs on 6th March looks a decent pick for Sky now with Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea all losing at Molineaux already this season. (And Spurs losing there last season of course).

Makes you think why Mann wasn't on the 3D yesterday. You would suspect it was because he was instead on this game, but Hawthorne was on live football within a day of the 3D broadcast too, maybe they just wanted a more experienced commentator?

What does experience have to do with anything? They had no problem giving Mann Liverpool vs. Chelsea, Chelsea vs. Man Utd (before it was postponed), Liverpool vs. Arsenal, Man Utd vs. Liverpool, etc.

Considering they've used Crocker, Hawthorne, and Weaver (Jones with a one-off) I think it's quite clear there's a rotational factor on 3D just as they do on 2D.

It's also obvious Sky see it fit to give Mann more live games.

There'd be a bigger audience on tonight's game in 2D than there will have been in 3D yesterday, so if anything, it's a bigger stage for him.

Regular
Going back to the weekend, I was really impressed by Steve Wilson's commentary on Newcastle v Arsenal. Ok, it's easy to produce the goods on a 4-4 draw - it'd be a shocking indictment if Wilson hadn't been able to produce a decent commentary. But credit where credit is due, Wilson gave 8 strong goal calls and provided a real sense of occasion.

I increasingly wonder whether the BBC made the wrong decision in plumping for Mowbray as number one. 4-5 years ago, Mowbray did seem to be the outstanding candidate; but since then Wilson has come on leaps and bounds. He's far less tabloid than he used to be and I'd argue has a better "voice" than Mowbray and Pearce. Mowbray's commentaries are rather boring imo.

Pearce has actually grown on me too, particularly on live games. On current form, I'd favour a dual number one - Wilson and Pearce - with Mowbray number three.
