A thread to discuss radio issues

Next season there is a change in rights so:

5Live- PL games at 12:45 Sat and 1st choice 3pm KO. Sun games kicking off after 3pm. Monday and Tuesday night games. (I think they may have 2nd choice on Weds but not sure).

TalkSport-5:30 Sat PL games. Games kicking off before 3pm on a Sunday and Wednesday night games

Absoloute Radio - 2nd choice Sat 3pm KO's.

5Live and TS will also have CL and EL games (rights TBC). 5Live also cover the FL and SPL (well, sort of).

Feel free to add local radio issues in here too.

I'm a big fan of Jimmy. I'd expect 5Live to be at your game on the 1st Saturday with Jimmy as main 3pm commentary.

Radio Scotland will continue their exclusive commentaries on the SPL, with occasional games popping up on Five Live and Sports Extra.

David Begg was due to retire 2 seasons ago, so it'll be interesting to see if he's still around this season and, if not, who the new "number 1" commentator is.

I wonder how successful Absolute's coverage will be. It is a good fit with their brand but they're going to be left with some poor games. By the time you take away the 4/5 TV picks, and then 5 Live having first choice you're not left with much.

Take the first weekend, the 3pm games are:

Aston Villa v West Ham, 15:00
Blackburn v Everton, 15:00
Blackpool v Wigan, 15:00
Bolton v Fulham, 15:00
Sunderland v Birmingham, 15:00
Wolverhampton v Stoke, 15:00

I suppose 5 Live will go for the Blackpool game, with Absolute left with the Villa/West Ham game. Given the station is on FM in London I wonder whether their picks will be skewed towards the London teams?

Any news on who their commentary team will be?

They've started playing trailers for it with clips of Jon Champion's commentaries on ESPN from last season, so I wonder if there may be some sort of tie-in between the 2 networks.

There's not been any hint as to Absoloute's plans as yet.

The package is a bit pointless and TS were probably not bothered about losing it

He's been doing a few overnight shits on there since he left Sky. Definitely seems to be 'back in the fold' at 5 Live.

It seems that Mike Ingham will open commentary on Sunday with Alan Green doing the 2nd half of each half

It was Ingham, Green and Waddle on 5Live last night.

During the season I'll post who is commentating/reporting on 5Live for each game or shaunofthespurs will. Between us we rarely miss anything!

Regular
Jim Proudfoot and Stan Collymore commentated on Netherlands v Spain for talkSPORT last night, with Mark Saggers presenting the coverage from Soccer City alongside Ray Parlour.

For the new season, I think I'll continue to post the details of talkSPORT's coverage and, where I can, BBC WM and the Orion Midland stations over on DS but can carry the info over to here as well if people are interested.

5 Live already trailing the new season's coverage!

Do you know if the other radio regulars such as 4-4-2, Ian Fergus, Ian Cleverly and Andy Rimmer have been told about this place?
