Gary made a quip about being in Salford and then said "here for the group stages". So I do wonder if the'll be out in Poland for the latter stages.

Why can't BBC/ITV get studio pundits of the same quality as Al Jazeera? Why not go for Wilkins/Souness etc?

Won't Wilkins and Souness be tied up by exclusivity contracts by Sky where they cannot appear for another UK television station - in the same ways their commentators are and have to work for American/Australian networks to cover it.

Possibly but they are just examples, the studio punditry form BBC/ITV is appalling.

Then we get Mark Bright as co-comm. Jesus.

This is why I have muted and gone to talkSPORT for commentary.

You've chosen TS over 5Live. Going for the low brow option.

John Murray (who is the best radio comm in the UK IMO) & Danny Mills

While Roder & Gray are a strong pairing, I just can't stand TS coverage in general. As much as I like Gray, he wouldn't be enough to get me to tune in!

Except the occasional "You are listening here live on talkSPORT", it's no different to any other commentary?

Roder and Gray have been brillaitn for this first half and Gray has done his research on these lesser known players, which was one of his weaknesses on CL nights for Sky. Roder's pronounciation is excellent. Keys gave a very Skyish "Your match commentators are Andy Gray and John Roder" on the hand over.

Ian Darke probably broke my speakers on the goal.

But he sounds very up for it and even Macca has been on-point for analysis.

It's more the overall nature of the station than anything else than any individuals, just not for me

Have to say i was out and i listen to the first half of Poland and Greece on talksport and i thought Andy Gray was at times far much to like his Sky days when it was only going to be his opinion which counts and to make it he would cut across Jon Roder all the time.
I agree i also like Jon Roder but have to say not for me with Andy Gray along side him, certainly makes me think he's not missed on Sky and he really does like the sound of his own voice at times.
Another post said it was Ian Danter tonight i thought it was Nigel Pearson?

Ian Darke's goal call for the Poland opener.

Have to say Tony Jones was also very animated, too!

Very impressed with the commentary from Ian Darke and Steve McManaman. Michael Ballack has been very disappointing in studio providing very little at all. At least Alexis Lalas is provide decent opinion. Bob Ley is fine as a host.

Ballack has been dreadful.

At halftime his analysis of Poland: "They've created a lot of chances and they've scored a goal."

Joe Speight covered the opening game for ITV, sounding very off-tubey-in-a-cupboard-in-the-media-centre

A very good performance too. Evidence of good homework with the opening ceremony and pronunciation of some players names. If only the BBC had used him on the river pageant!

My TV was on mute for the goal (nothing to do with it being Drury). It wasn't a "Goal for Russia" was it?

To be fair to him, Drury toned it down alot on this one. Looking past all the dictionarys and theasauruses he throws at you in commentary, he had a very strong goal calling voice - his choice of words just sometimes let him down.

He called the Czech Republic goal very well.
