ESPN US comms for the semis

Spain/Portugal - Darke and Macca
Italy/Germany - Healey and Mustoe

Final - Darke and Macca

Strange assignments. I think Darke and Macca got the worse semifinal if you ask me.

Think i would agree, Germany would be the first choice but at least he gets the final for you guys.
Just going back to last night i thought Mowbery had a very good game but again not helped by the oh so dull Lawrenson.
Off course 90% of viewers wanted an England win but at least he gave Italy credit where it was so deserved.
Odd decision to give Champion the game on ITV as it was Englands biggest game for some time even if it was only highlights for the channel, surley Tlydlesly would of got it, but it was a plesent surprise to hear him.
As for the semi final's on BBC i would hope Steve Wilson would get one with no doubt the other going to Guy Mowbery.

Think the assignments are based on location.

Darke and Macca will have been in Ukraine three games in a row (England/Italy, Spain/Portugal, then the final) so they probably don't want to do even more traveling than they need to.

I would imagine this applies to other network's comms in some cases, too.

Just caught the end of Keys and Gray today and im pretty sure i heard them say that Clive Tlydsley was doing both Semi Finals for ITV and then the final so that did then mean we heard the last of Peter Drury on his game for Germany the other night.

Based on BBC blog and DS it's Wilson and Keown tonight and Mowbray with presumably Lawrenson tomorrow.

It is Wilson and Keown.

Keown gets stick but is a country mile better than Mark Bright. You never know he might say that Spain play football as quick as Indy Nascars tonight!!

Keown is 0.02% better than Bright.

I've said this but Bright is rubbish but you can tell he's a nice guy, but Keown is rubbish AND deeply unlike able.

This is Ian Darke's best commentary in that he's keeping me interested in a game only marginally better than Ukraine/Switzerland 2006.

I thought Keown was ok last night and clearly is a lot better than Mark Bright.
Have to say i thought both Wilson and Keown were over the top regarding Ronaldo, everytime he got near the ball they made him out to be some kind of god!!
Glad he's out really so at least the final wont revolve round one player!!
I like Steve Wilson alot but he was a little over the top last night.

I think Martin Keown has had a decent tournament - clearly the Beeb are keen on him giving him a live semi-final over Bright. I thought he had a very good World Cup in 2010 too working largely alongside Simon Brotherton. Really enjoyed Brotherton's commentaries in this tournament too - seems to have benefited from a bit wider exposure due to the absence of Steve Wilson in the early stages
