I suspect Drury has now gone home. It works in a sense if you think about it. Drury gets a live quarter-final (and a live match as his last game on an ITV contract), Tyldesley gets a live quarter-too and then Champion gets two highlights several days apart. It keeps everyone happy. Then they just use Tyldesley and Townsend for the last three games.

I think the BBC need a bit of a shake-up of their co-commentators really. I think Martin Keown is pretty decent as a third/fourth choice; he seems to take a lot of time over what he says but maybe doesn't convey it in the most exciting manner. He's certainly better than Mark Bright in my view. I liked Mick McCarthy in 2010 - a shame he didn't get a higher profile this time, especially considering he doesn't have any mangerial commitments. I used to like Mark Lawrenson but over the past few years he seems to have become rather bored in his commenatries. I don't think he's currently performing to the standard of a number 1 co-commentator (although equally I don't consider Andy Townsend to be at that level either.)

Bring back Ron Atkinson & Trevor Brooking. By far the best co comms ITV & the BBC have ever used!

Thing is though Atkinson and Brooking isn't forward/future thinking. Fair enough they could be back but for what 5 years max?

Trevor Brooking is at the FA. No way he'd do punditry on England games. Corporate Gareth on ITV is enough.

How about Big Ron for the new BT channel when it starts?
I could think of a lot worse to be honest.

I think he's still too toxic for national TV. Local radio can get away with employing him, and he's appeared on minor channels such as Bravo and UKTV G2 since leaving ITV, but I still don't think BT will go near him.

This is a little late, but here are the calls for Balotelli's goal from ESPN USA's Adrian Healy and Robbie Mustoe.

Good commentary indeed from Adrian Healey

What's annoying is the dippy comments/posts underneath the video.

According to Ian Darke's twitter account, it will be Bob Ley, Michael Ballack, Alexis Lalas, and Taylor Twellman in studio with Darke and Macca in commentary in the stadium. Not surprising Twellman is in studio after being absent in the Earthquakes v. Galaxy match yesterday. For record keeping, it was Healy and Julie Foudy in the booth yesterday.

ESPN US studio panel: Bob Ley, Taylor Twellman, Alexi Lalas, and Michael Ballack

Commentators in Kiev: Ian Darke and Steve McManaman

Hoping for a good game, as it's in the law of averages for Darke to have a dramatic finish in every major tournament!

Jake Humphrey is with Martin Keown outside the ground (probably pitchside later too)
