Question for older members - was the Alan Wilkins who was doing the cricket the same bloke who was on BBC Wales some 25 years ago? I saw him briefly in vision and he didn't look at all how I remembered him but that would probably apply to a lot of us after 25 years!

Thanks - Wilkins was tipped for great things in the late 80s on the BBC.

I was thinking about who might get the lead on the tennis finals. If it came out something like:

Mens - Andrew Castle
Women - Mark Petchey
Mens Doubles - Simon Reed
Womens Doubles - Andrew Cotter
Mixed - Nick Mullins or Chris Bradman

that would leave no place for the other of Mullins/Bradman, David Mercer or Barry Davies. I could understand Bazza being passed over as sadly his great career is coming to a close but Mercer has clearly been shuffled down the pecking order in recent years.

I agree with the singles comments - don't watch doubles so I can't say anything informed. It is a shame that Mercer's seemed to be demoted, he is good - I can only imagine that Castle and Petchey are sort of 'names' - which is a shame because Castle is dire. I like Petch, so there complaints there, but I'd have thought the BBC might try and go for one of their own e.g Cotter, whereas of course Petchey is Sky's number one.

Anyway, all but one of the women's quarters (not home in time too see the lovely Lisicki)
Li v A Radwanska - Chris Bradnam, Lindsay Davenport and John McEnroe
Flipkens v Kvitova - Jason Goodall and Sam Smith
Stephens v Bartoli - David Mercer and Tracy Austin

Rishi Persad did the interviews for Centre Court matches, Garry Richardson did Lisicki v Kanepi and maybe the other match too

Mercer must be unique in having both commentated on and umpired the Men's Singles Final (though not at the same time!!).

He officiated at Wimbledon for more than a decade and did the McEnroe-Connors final in 1984.

Agree that Castle is dire - can't see what the Beeb see in him

And for Murray v Janowicz it was Andrew Castle, Tim Henman and John McEnroe, with Garry Richardson doing the interviews. Phil Jones did that job for the first semi

Mens Doubles final was Simon Reed and Peter Fleming
Ladies Doubles final was David Mercer and Tracey Austin

So Mercer got a final after all. That probably means that Cotter will get the mixed.

With the Mens and Ladies singles being on 3D they presumably need separate commentaries so that lets in Bradman, Mullins and (and more likely) Barry, who has done a 3D final in the previous two years.
