Okay, we've had a couple of weeks with the current system of having threads split by broadcaster and now is time to decide which is the one people want to use going forward

Options are;

A) Leave everything as it currently is with separate threads for each broadcaster and additional topics on music, broadcasting rights etc.

B) Go back to the old system where everything commentary related for every broadcaster was in one thread, supplemented with a small number of separate threads broadcasting rights, tv ratings etc.

C) Merge every single thread into one big thread.

If you could leave comments about why you an option is best then please do.

I've gone for Option A ... we've got this whole separate forum to ourselves - it'd be a shame not make use of it instead of just having one thread updated constantly. Too easy to have useful information and good points lost in it all.

I too have gone for 'B' as it's difficult to keep on top of each thread, particuarly responses to your own posts; but I'd prefer the competitions to be kept in their own section, please.

I voted B. It's a mix of A and C and it's also my idea.

Barring some serious ballot stuffing by the end of the week it looks like B is the winner.

I've voted for option B.

Initially I liked the idea of separate threads.

However I'm now starting to think that it's not working very well. I think the problem is that people have to take the trouble to go into lots of separate threads which takes time and is a bit more hassle. This means that many people often won't bother to do this.

The other thing is that with separate threads the debate doesn't tend to flow so well as not everyone is seeing the whole debate. So it's as if there are a lot of small separate conversations going on rather than one big conversation.

My conclusion is we need to get back to one big conversation. To do that there need to be far fewer threads.

Obviously things like the Competition, Records, TV picks etc should remain separate.

I've gone for option B too.

I think it makes it easier to keep on top of as otherwise there's the issue of checking every thread and working out when you last looked. Plus there's more of a collective feeling as you can have more debate/more of a community.

I have gone for B as well. Like MLT said, at first thought seperate threads was a good idea but now after few days would much prefer to have one thread. I have to admit I liked how DS was but the petty squabbling got tedious so hopefully that will stop. Good idea about keeping the competitions seperate though, did clog up on DS a bit so thats a good tool to have on here.

I'm not really fussed. However, am I being blind, or is there really no button to jump to the first unread post of a thread?

We wait a further week, then Nick Clegg picks the winner?

I was going to give it a while longer because some people are still coming across.

I too have gone for B and echo the same reasons as above, with the competitions staying seperate and such..

I have selected B as well for all the reasons given above and I also agree that the competitions and any other not strictly commentator related topics should have separate threads as well.

OK, I've selected option B as it's closest as to how I would like to see the site run. However I would personally do it slightly differently. I would have a number of permanent threads set up by the moderators that should cover all areas of conversation. I get the point that we should take advantage of having our own forum. However, the area of discusion is quite specialised and specific so there isn't a great need for 100's of different threads. As a reader myself I find it easy to keep up with where I have finised it terms of page numbers so long as there are just a few threads I am reading at a time. This becomes a lot less simple with several threads.

So this is how I would lay out the forum:

Sports Broadcasting Section:

-Football Commentators Thread
-Football Contracts, Scheduling and Broadcast Business Thread.
-Sports (Non-Football) Commentators Thread
-Sports (Non-Football) Contracts, Scheduling and Broadcast Business Thread.
-Music Thread
-Live Matches Thread - only moderators post here to provide a complete list of all live matches shown in the UK (I believe Mark has started this.

Competitions Section

-Domestic Competition
-International Competition

General Discussion

-Football
-Other Sports
-News and Current Affairs
-Further General Discussion

I think this system would allow for different conversations to be sectioned off but would keep an overall flow in conversation that we enjoyed on the Football Commentators Thread.

I like sephzoni's idea the best.

The Competition section is already set up like that so no need to change that. The broadcasting section I'd keep the non-football separate hence I've put it in off-topic for now, but the layout is perfect for me.
