Worst Commentary Blunders

College Football - Marshall vs. Ohio

ESPN commentator Pam Ward disrespects an injured Marshall player on live television thinking her mic was off.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9Nfla0CmH0

Ward inexplicably still has a job despite being awful at both basketball and football commentaries.

Women's Basketball - New York vs. Indiana

Pam Ward (again)! She completely forgets basketball games don't end in a tie and she thinks the game is over.

Ice Hockey - Tampa Bay vs. Ottawa

CBC legend Bob Cole doesn't see a goal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfSqoBaUhkY

Cole is nearing 80 and still gets games today and is the Martin Tyler of Canadian broadcasting.

Ice Hockey - Philadelphia vs. New Jersey

Versus commentator Mike Emrick sees a goal that never happened.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwoZSqsA-rQ

Emrick is one of Versus/NBC's top commentators, most notably for his ability to shriek at inhuman levels.

On more than a few soccer broadcasts I've heard commentators shout "GOAL!" when in reality the ball hit the side netting.

What are some of your favorite commentary gaffes?

Forgot about that. Always count on Keys to say something.

Meanwhile, at the end of this video (3:00 in) Curt Menefee of FOX declares a made field goal in the NFL "no good".

Saying Peter Drury is a gaffe in itself is a bit harsh but it did pop into my head

Can we add the "Boy it's big! Boy it's massive!" as a blunder ! ?

Not really...just a quote I took out of context and turned into something sexual sounding. ;-)

Another one I can remember was Shep Messing on ESPN during the 2006 World Cup. When Australia scored to make it 3-1 over Japan he said "Joy for Australia! And heartbreak for Australia!"

Bit of a legend and a hero of mine but Brian Moore's "Hamburg are European Champions" was a good un!

Also there was a fella on the BBC many years ago who used to regularly get drunk, I can't remember his name

My favourite ever gaffe was when David Coleman said 'Peru score their 3rd goal and its 3-1 to Scotland' during the 1978 World Cup.

Not so much commentary blunders, but Andy Gray is involved.

The first one is on MNF on May Bank Holiday 1998. Keys and Gray are laughing at women's football. To see the laughing part, go to 2:06
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ienZj9onV0Q&feature=related

And the classic Gray and Redknapp debate about Mascherano's red card against United.

A more recent error (as recent as today, actually!): John Motsons phone went off on Football Focus at White Hart Lane

And while we're it at here is Adebayor's phone going off live on-air during the World Cup:

BBC Newcastle's Mick Lowes talking about an impressive West Ham performance and in particular a stand out one from Julian Dicks "Its almost as if they’ve got 11 Dicks on the pitch!”
