EA Sports announced as Tenchnology Partner of the Premier League. Apparently EA Sports branding will feature on broadcasts, with regards to statistics (possibly like Sony at the World Cup) Actim already did that on the International Feed

Thinking about it, that shouldn't really have been a surprise. More commentators were always going to be needed for the FA Cup Coverage. I don't think it's a bad move

Just following up on the Listed Events, the title of the BBC article is:

"Ashes free-to-air TV ruling deferred until 2013"

However it is worth reading very carefully the Written Ministerial Statement on 21 July 2010. See link to Hansard:

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201011/cmhansrd/cm100721...

Note carefully:

"These issues all point to a full review of the current list being deferred until after digital switchover has concluded and its consequences are known."

"I propose to defer a decision on the listed events regime but with a commitment to review the position more fully in 2013-following the completion of digital switchover."

Reading the whole statement and in particular those two paragraphs it's clear that in fact a decision has not been deferred until 2013.

In fact, what is going to happen is that a new review is going to start in 2013. Those familiar with the process will know what this means, ie:

Committee formed, Public consultation, Committee makes recommendations, Sec of State considers, Sec of State then consults on his preliminary view etc.

The last Labour government kicked off their review in December 2008 and didn't finish the whole process before this year's General election.

So in fact we are looking at the next review kicking off from scratch again in 2013 and the final announcement of a new list may be as late as 2015.

ie the ECB will by then be well into their next contract (2014 to 2017) and they may even have a go at signing a contract for 2018 to 2021 before a new list is announced.

So EVEN IF the Ashes are added to the list at the next review we may well be looking at 2025 (!) for the first Ashes series which would be affected.

A perfect example of Sir Humphrey in action!

Any news on Scotland's Euro 2012 away qualifiers?

It seems a bit odd - when Sky announced their rights for all England away games they also announced they had the rights for all Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland away games - except for one Wales game (away to England - obviously) and one away game each for NI and ROI.

But Sky do not appear to have any Scotland away games which seems a bit odd. Have these been secured by someone else? ESPN and BBC Scotland would be the other obvious candidates.

No news AFAIK about Scotland matches. ESPN have said they secured some Euro 2012 games, other than the games involving France and Germany. I think there'll be a split between BBC and Sky to be honest

I think the Italy v NI match will end up on the BBC - Wales, Scotland and NI have all played games in Italy over the last few years and BBC showed them all

Sky will happy enough with the four home qualifiers at Hampden and I don't think ESPN will want any more qualifiers than they already have. Unlike previous campaigns were the likes of Setanta have bought the away games in advance I can see negotiations for each individiual match going right to the last minute. Bodes well for BBC Scotland who could well snap them up for peanuts.

Unless the reports at the time were wrong, Sky got the away games for Scotland at the same time as the rest.

Sky's own press release made it very clear they had not acquired rights to any Scotland away qualifiers at the time. See link:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,18890_6207296,00.html

Unfortunately the quality of journalism is so poor these days that even when presented with a clear press release employees of other organisations are unable to report simple facts without making basic errors.

I'm not surprised, it's an iconic program in Sky's history and a great marketing tool as we approach the new season. Especially if Andy Gray is doing his analysis with Richard Keys just like old times.

2 of the most remembered interviews came from MNF, Keegan's rant (possibly he most famous pre-match interview ever in the UK) and the Big Ron incident.

There's also many memorable games, Ferdinand's return from his ban, the Brum derbies, Utd vs Newcastle when Cantona nicked the winner (96 I think) etc

They showed that promo on the Emirates Cup over the weekend, pretty snazzy. Hopefully it doesn't phase out in to the pale shadow MNF was in its last couple of years on sky, or during the time on Setanta and ESPN.

Really pleased they are making more of an effort for MNF, set looks great and they certainly seem to be hyping it up. That promo is really well done.

On another note, if anyone is interested this week's SSN podcast features some behind the scenes stuff ahead of the HD launch,

Apologies not sure what happened with all my posts below.

The trailer must be the biggest hint yet that it will be Gray and Keys doing the show each week.
