Hi

On the first day of the PL and SPL we'd just like to thank everyone for making the switch over here, it's gone really smoothly! Also, welcome to new members

We really would like to encourage people to try and keep discussion on here rather than splitting between here and DS. Obviously we are not telling you what tp do and carry on using DS as much as you like. We just don't want to end up with split threads as that would defeat the point of us being on here.

So, if you have any ideas, questions or problems then post in here or PM a Mod
Happy new season everyone (I know I'm a week late with some)

Is there anyway of telling mods on DS to close the thread and not make a new 'part' to it?

Again though there is still people across there that completely don't get, or don't want to move across. I think that is how a few of us carry on posting across there for the mean time, hopefully everyone will be here soon.

You can now use HTML in your posts now when you don't use quick reply.

I didn't see Rich Text Editor yesterday so I assume it's been put in place today.

Our hopes include that people on here stop posting on the DS thread and it dies

Think likes of me, SS etc are too nice really, trying to not leave folks out, but you are right, really should stop posting in that DS Thread!

To be honest, I've got no issue as to whether or not discussion continues on DS or not but if the bigwigs here want the DS thread to die out, that's fine by me.

Perhaps someone should be keeping an eye on the other side and be charged with sending PM's to anyone over on DS who wonders why discussion has stopped or where the competition has gone?

Cos obviously plenty of people will only be looking over there now the football season has started.

I did quickly have a gander at DS earlier in the week, and one or two people are still sending out PM's to this place

I don't think it's possible to completely kill off the DS thread, people on there will still comment on it, but if we're all on here DS will be like the Championship Manager situation when Sega picked up the licences or whatever, it'll carry on but won't be as good

Unfortunatly the one major problem with this forum has been (as far as i know) the inability to get Arius to sign up. And it would appear people still have their questions which he is always willing to answer over on DS.

Unbelievable. Why can't you leave Digital Spy alone and let the users and moderators there use it as they see fit?

I never quite thought that comment out when I wrote it.

The only way for this to work is for anyone on here not tp post on DS.

Problem is though, is that at the moment you are still having to check both still in case you miss anything.

At the moment tonights MOTD commentators have been posted on DS, but not on here. Also this site doesn't seem as busy as DS used to be.

I agree completely, we need to stop people posting on DS as much as possible if this is to work. Otherwise the community with splinter over the 2 sites and that's the last thing we need.

I think this place is nice for stuff that has outgrown a single thread on DS (e.g. competitions, football banter between certain users, people posting homemade commentaries for their mates to laugh along to etc etc etc). I think all that stuff annoyed quite a lot of people on DS who quite liked what the broadcasting thread was orginally about. So this place is a good idea for that sort of thing and developing an online community around it.

But DS is what it is, its one of the biggest forums out there, I don't understand how from any standpoint you could argue not posting there would be a good idea, you're closing yourself off from football broadcasting chat from a lot of people who aren't interested in being part of a separate community with you guys.

Problem is though, is that at the moment you are still having to check both still in case you miss anything.

well yeah as i said above that is going to happen because of what DS is, nothing you can do about it.

At the moment tonights MOTD commentators have been posted on DS, but not on here.

Why don't you post them on here then?

Also this site doesn't seem as busy as DS used to be.

Well yeah you have what, 40-50 users here? you have 10 times (at least) that number looking at DS every day.

Whatever your beef with Digitalspy, or the reasons for coming here, you are not going to be able to prevent the majority of posts continuing to appear on Digitalspy. Just looking now, there are at least 7 other threads regarding today's football on TV that have been posted to that site in the last hour. People post to these sites for a multitude of reasons, and if your tactics are framed with "defeating" Digitalspy in mind, you can't win.

I'm with notarius in some respects - the arrogance such as that on this thread is putting me off here, as is the fact that the forum appears less user friendly than others - e.g. the advertising within posts even when logged in, the lack of a go to unread posts, etc. Forums live and die with their users, it is a lot easier to alienate them and lose them than get them back.

I personally didn't have a problem with DS and would go back there like a shot if we all decided to ditch this one.

At the moment i don't think its working out. I don't get any email updates, even tough i have done the toggle email notification.

I dont think it's as user friendly as DS, and as been posted on here, i don't think the thread on DS will ever go away, so can't see the point of carrying on this one if we are still having to go on DS to check that out too.

I have no beef with DS and still post on there for other things, no idea where the idea of "defeating" DS comes into it?!

The point I was making is that there's no point splintering our community over two different sites, that is of benefit to nobody.

Nobody said this site is perfect yet but it does offer a chance for us to do more things than we could on DS. Similarly any issues with the forums are being ironed out, the site should have a new look within the next week, some new features and advertising in the posts will be gone soon too.

Here's what I think:

1.) Too many detractors have their minds set on the use of the forum. We've got a home page with articles and an (in-progress) archives section to record commentators for Sky/BBC/ITV dating back to 2003-04. There are 10 parts to the DS thread you have to trawl through if you want to find information, whereas the Records section makes it a lot easier to find what you're looking for.

2.) I'm not a fan of this forum layout and I've long been a vBulletin fan. This can be customized but the people in charge at Vital would be paying a fortune to switch to vBulletin as well as forcing everyone to re-register, which would be tedious and annoying. We'll have to work with what we've got. The tech people can add things to make this site easier to use.

3.) Permanently leaving the DS thread is up to you. We're not going to get 100% of people to come over and that's a fact. I don't have too much of a problem with the other thread being kept alive as long as this place is the primary source for discussion, competition entry, historical records, etc.
